We finished this garage floor in Greeley last week with our epoxy system. Like we do on all of our garage floors, we used a diamond-grinder to prepare the floor with an industrial vacuum to capture the dust that is generated. The mechanical abrasion of the concrete is the best way to prep concrete for a performance coating such as epoxy or polyaspartic. We also grind the stem wall (aka foundation wall).
As with most garage floor projects, we also coated the steps. The customer elected to have us coat the tread and the risers. We used the popular “Copper Mountain 1/4” flakes for this project and applied the polyaspartic on top because it has superior gloss retention, abrasion resistance and overall durability compared to epoxy or urethane.
Professional epoxy companies will typically charge between $3.50 – $4.50 per square foot for this application. I’ve come across competitors that do not coat stem walls or steps – apparently because they lack the know-how. We pride ourselves on our professional, consistent high-quality garage floor installations across all of our crews.
